We start the hike with a visit to one of the most complex and beautiful castles in the Czech Republic – Křivoklát (Please, mind that we are not going inside the castle. We will see it only from the lookouts.). Křivoklát Castle was founded in the 12th century, was rebuilt in Romanesque style in the 13th century, and in the Gothic style in the 15th century. And while many owners invited the best architects of their time to reconstruct the castle, it never served the purpose kings were hoping for. Instead of a place for entertaining court life, Křivoklát was used either as a safe haven or as a prison. From the castle we take a long path to the city called Nižbor. The path is a part of the Czech Camino de Santiago (called Železná Way). We pass small villages and fields and finish our journey in the local bar called Zastávka. The exterior and interior of this bar will surprise you, as well as the story behind it and amazing food and beer – for those who deserved it after 18 kilometers of walking.
The hike is hard. The route is 19 km long, with short uphills. Check out our Hiking Difficulty Scale for more information about the difficulty of the hike.
We recommend comfortable hiking or running shoes, some water, fully charged phone, warm and waterproof clothes in case of raining. We will end our trip in a small bar in Nižbor. You will be able to get warm food there. However, it is recommended to bring some snacks since you might get hungry before we reach the brewery.
At 8:30 a.m. outside the Main train station (Hlavní nádraží), in the park Vrchlického sady in front of Potrefená husa pub. We return to Prague around 7 p.m.
The fee includes transportation by bus, services of the skilled and friendly guide and entrance to the French and English Parks at Dobříš Palace (excludes food, drinks, insurance).
